Pride in Our
Heritage...
The
Savannah Italian Club has been part of the Savannah
community for the past seventy-eight years. Originally
established in 1928, the club was chartered under its
present name in 1954.
The purpose of the club is to cherish our Italian
heritage and to promote Italian fellowship. To that end,
the club holds monthly meetings and other in-house
celebrations such as parties for Valentine’s Day,
Thanksgiving, and New Year’s. We have sponsored a car in
the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in recent years, and we
celebrate the feast of our patron saint, St. Joseph, on
March 19 with Mass on the grounds followed by a covered
dish supper.
The club also sponsors activities that include the
Savannah community at large. In the past, we have hosted
Spaghetti Dinners, Oyster Roasts, Low Country Boils and
the very popular Taste of Italy.
With its million dollar view on the Herb River, the Club
facility not only serves as a beautiful backdrop for our
club activities, but it also is often rented for private
weddings, family reunions, and other festive occasions.
Mindful of our community, the Savannah Italian Club also
contributes to four local charities each year. The two
permanent charities which the Club supports are St.
Mary’s Home on Victory Drive and the Muscular Dystrophy
Association. Club members vote on the other two
charities. In the past, we have donated money to Toys
for Tots, the Rape Crisis Center, The Christmas Stocking
Fund, and Hospice.
